(New Video Post) Top 5 Ridiculous Expectations of ACTORS

Screen Shot 2014-11-24 at 5.27.47 PM

I recently had a conversation with a friend and she said, “there’s something I’ve always wanted to know about Actors but never had a chance to ask?…How am I supposed to know when you’re not acting anymore? Like when were you being Hazel and when are you being Andrea?” …. *Blank Stare* *Awkward Silent Pause* LOL I was completely stumped on how to answer this because the answer seemed very obvious to me buuuutt I’m never “Hazel” I’m always “Andrea” in real life and I’m only acting when I’m on set or stage because that’s my job lol. This question though as silly as it was to me is a common misinterpretation of what it’s like to be an actor, so I decided to gather a few of my talented friends to discuss the “Top 5 Ridiculous Expectations of Actors” check out the video below and chime in if you agree.

1. Can You Cry?

“You’re an actor! That’s awesome, can you cry on the spot?” No! I don’t know any actors that can cry on que but I do know a lot of actors who can cry while doing a scene that requires them to have certain emotions and they are only able to cry because they have practiced, studied and prepared to be as much in character and connected to the scene as possible aka acting.

2. When Are You Not Acting?

The type of person who is “acting” all the time whether it is their job or not is mentally unstable. Actors are not “acting” everywhere they go or constantly being a character. Is a receptionist always answering a phone and organizing files? No. Actors are only acting while they are at work.

3. Act for me Now!

I’m sorry but just because I have a profession in the arts doesn’t mean I’m a puppet or wind-up toy that can tap dance whenever a random stranger wants some entertainment. This same question is asked every time someone finds out I’m a singer as well, “oh you’re a singer? Let me hear something…” *walks aways*

4. Have I seen Something?

I understand why people ask this question to actors but like Rob says, as an actor you usually feel a bit uncomfortable if they haven’t seen anything and you’re trying your best to cater your answer to the taste of the person asking.  But honestly if you don’t recognize them, then you most likely haven’t seen them, and that’s okay!

5. This is Tough..

Yes, we all know that being an actor is tough and not everyone is going to become a big Hollywood star but not every actor is after that! Every industry has their challenges but that doesn’t stop people from pursuing their dreams and actors are no different please stop reminding us about how tough our industry is.

If you’re an actor, what else would you add to the list?

Happy Self Love Saturday!

Today’s post is dedicated to anyone who is worried and stressed about getting into a relationship and finding that “perfect” someone. I know that we all want to be boo’d up especially now that it’s winter but I have to try and encourage you to enjoy your freedom right now. A lot of people think that a relationship will bring them happiness but honestly in my own experience happiness truly comes from with in and if you aren’t happy with yourself first there isn’t any relationship that will change that. So take this time to enjoy your freedom and truly live for you. Seek happiness and peace and love for you and don’t wait for “Prince Charming” because he can only take you so far if you haven’t done the work to find it for yourself. Check out my video below on “Enjoying Your Freedom”.

Happy Self Love Saturday!

I read the quote above and it spoke directly to my life at this moment. This year has been oddly challenging for me and at times a real test to my faith and patience but I have no choice but to ride the wave and just trust the process. My self love journey has taught me that everything happens for a reason and it’s all for a greater plan to prepare you for something much bigger. The scary and rough parts of the ride are necessary to the process and one day everything will make sense. Check out my video below on the importance of trusting the process.

(New Video Post) Beauty Advice For My Younger Self: Embracing Natural Beauty

photo-1

Quick Story:

Before uploading this video I had a bunch of people post on my Facebook page or send me a message thanking me for promoting “natural beauty” and it’s funny because I really didn’t notice how often I talk about natural beauty until doing this post, but I’m happy that others have noticed and allowing me to speak about it!

Now back to the post, when I asked you guys about a month or so ago what kind of things you wanted to see on my youtube channel a bunch of people asked me to add a beauty element. Now I’m no makeup guru but I do happen to love talking about makeup/hair/fashion with my girlfriends and we often talk about the mistakes we made in our past and the advice we wish we could have given our younger selves when comes to beauty! I saw a note that Phylicia Rashad wrote for her 21 yr old self and I decided to take this concept and give it my own spin! Check out my first video below on “Beauty Advice For My Younger Self” on Embracing Your Natural Beauty! What Advice would you give to your younger self?

(New Video Post) Pick Your Battles #SelfLoveSaturday

Happy Self Love Saturday!

Today I want to talk to you guys about the power of “picking your battles”. I’ll admit that I am still learning when and how to pick my battles, instead of getting defensive, taking things personal and being quick to fight but my self love journey has been a big help for that. I was inspired to do this video from reading a quote that said,

“Arguing with people whose intentions are not to understand you, only to prove themselves right. You do not owe it to anybody to carry on a conversation that is only serving the ego, but you do owe it to yourself to step out of the inevitable frustration and self-doubt of interacting with people who don’t listen to understand, but to respond; who don’t speak to be heard, but to defend.”

This quote put a lot of things into perspective for me because recently I’ve had to deal with a few people that were arguing with me for the sake of arguing and not to understand me. I had to step back and understand what was happening and why it wasn’t worth me putting my effort into and instead pick my battles wisely. Check out the video below on what I’ve learned about picking my battles.

(New Video Post) Deciding & Defining What You Want #SelfLoveSaturday

Screen Shot 2014-10-25 at 2.03.05 PM

Happy Self Love Saturday!

How are you guys doing? Today I want to talk about Deciding and Defining what you want in life. I think this is a crucial step for self love and overall success. It’s one thing to say you want to be happy or successful or in love but what do those things look like for you? Is it a big home? Is it living having a big family? Is it simply peace of mind? The sooner you define it, the easier it is for you to go after it and achieve it because you will go in the direction of what you want and your focus will be crystal clear. The moment I decided and defined what I truly wanted in life the quicker the universe made room in my life for my vision of success and happiness and I’m still going! Check out my video below on the importance of Deciding and Defining What You Want.

(New Video Post) “Gratitude Is The Best Attitude” #SelfLoveSaturday

gratitude post

Happy Self Love Saturday!

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of messages from people asking, how I am able to stay so positive and continue on my self love journey and with that I have one simple reply, “Gratitude is the best attitude” . I have learned a lot about having gratitude for your life and how the feeling of gratitude can turn any bad day into a great day and it can help to keep you focused on the positive rather than the negative.

I have forced myself to live in constant gratitude by making it apart of my daily routine. I wake up and I say “thank you”, before I go to bed I say “thank you” and I regularly find myself through out my day saying “thank you” for the smallest and simplest pleasures that help me to get through my days. I’m truly thankful for everything in my life and it’s having this overwhelming sense of gratitude that has helped to make my journey even better and easier! Check out my video below on why “gratitude is the best attitude” to have.

I also wanted to let you guys know I’m going to be taking a mini break from my #SelfLoveSaturday videos for the next few weeks because my schedule is getting a bit hectic but I want to do a #SelfLove Q & A for the next video that I come back with, so if you have any questions please leave them in the comment section!
